005: When Money Ruins the Race

Ever wondered what really happens when prize money enters the world of RC racing? 💸 In this episode of Married to RC, Christa and Kevin from LCRC Raceway share the honest truth about cash races — why they once hosted them, what went wrong, and the hard lessons they learned along the way.

From the excitement of “The Big One” — a $1,000 guaranteed purse — to the chaos that followed, this episode dives deep into how money races can change the atmosphere, attract the wrong crowd, and even hurt the heart of the RC community. The husband-and-wife team open up about the moment they realized that having the right racers is far more valuable than chasing big entries or cash payouts.

If you’re an RC racer, a track owner, or just passionate about building a positive RC racing community, this conversation will hit home. Learn what it takes to host events that focus on fun, friendship, and family, not just prize money — and why LCRC will never host another cash race again.

Great Episode. Money is the root of all evil right? When you race for fun you have fun. How would you say you have found the best way to ensure a high level of competition while not letting it get tooo serious is? I feel like if no one takes the racing serious you are doing the racer an injustice but if it’s so competitive only the few survive then new racers will lose interest fast or feel unwelcome. What’s the secret sauce?
